Foreign trade in goods
of the Republic of Belarus
January-JuLy 2008
According to the customs committee statistics* in January-July 2008 international trade of the Republic of Belarus amounted to $44.1 billion, up 58.6% over January-July 2007. The trade with the CIS countries totaled $25.1 billion (57% of the total trade turnover), up 61.3% from January-July 2007. Trade with the non-CIS countries ramped up by 55.1% to $18.9 billion.

In January-July 2008, Belarus had a foreign trade deficit of $2.7 billion (in January-July 2007 the deficit was $2 billion). The deficit of the trade with the CIS countries came to $7.3 billion (in January-July 2007 the deficit was $3.9 billion). A surplus in the trade with the non-CIS countries reached $4.6 billion (in January-July 2006 a surplus was $1.8 billion).
Exports of the Republic of Belarus were up 60.8% over the same period 2007 to $20.7 billion
Exports to the CIS surged by 52.5% to $8.9 billion
Exports to the non-CIS countries were up 67.8% to $11.8 billion
Imports of the Republic of Belarus increased by 56.7% this year to $23.4 billion
Imports from the CIS countries were up 66.6% to $16.2 billion
Imports from the non-CIS countries were up by 37.9% to $7.1 billion

Belarus increased trade with Russia (up $7.9 billion), Ukraine (up $1.5 billion), the Netherlands (up $1.3 billion), Latvia (up $863.9 million), Poland (up $764.7 million), Brazil (up $719.9 million), Germany (up $529.2 million), Great Britain (up $232.8 million).
Trade with the Russian Federation was up 58.9% from January-July 2007 to $21.3 billion; a deficit reached $8.2 billion. Exports were up 40.4%, imports 68.7%.
Trade with Ukraine was up 98.1% to $3 billion; a surplus came to $485.9 million. Exports were up 2.5 times, imports 51.9%.
Trade with Kazakhstan was up $13.8 million from January-July 2007 to $318.1 million; a surplus was $91.4 million.
Belarus had a surplus in trade with other CIS countries.
Trade with Moldova picked up by $87.1 million to $208.7million; with Uzbekistan by $34.3 million to $95.4 million, Azerbaijan by $23.6 million to $71.6 million. Trade with Turkmenistan was down $33.4 million.
Trade with the non-CIS countries accounted for 43% of the total trade of the Republic of Belarus.
Trade with the EU countries was up 55.8% up over January-July 2007 to $13.9 billion (31.4% of the total trade of the Republic of Belarus). Exports increased 66.9% to $9.3 billion, imports were up 37.2% up to $4.6 billion.
Belarus’ major non-CIS trading partners are the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Great Britain, Brazil, China.
